Hi, my name is Colleen Hays and this is my 1st year teaching the 5th grade at James W. Smith Elementary. I moved from Cleveland, Ohio right before the beginning of the school year. In Cleveland, I taught 5th grade ELA and Social Studies but I am very excited to be in North Carolina continuing to teach ELA and Social Studies but also adding in Science.
I graduated from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio with a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. During college, I was able to be part of Ursuline’s very first cross country team. I also attended Ohio University and Heidelberg College, taking classes to allow me to teach 4th and 5th as well as reading for kindergarten through 12th grade.
In my free time, I enjoy reading my ever growing collection of books for our classroom library. I also enjoy exploring my state and discovering all that North Carolina has to offer.
I am so excited to be starting a new school year, in a new state, and meeting a wonderful bunch of 5th graders!
